For the second straight week, a Siena Saint has taken the honors. This is his second time taking home the award and 7th MAAC honor overall. He was Rookie of the Week 5 times in the 2006-2007 season. Ubiles averaged 21.5 points and 5 rebounds over the last two games.
In my opinion, Ubiles is our all around best player. Even in Florida it seemed like no team had a 3 that could match up with him. He played really well against Loyola and hit the dagger from 3 late in the game against Albany.
Do keep in mind that Ubiles missed 5 of 8 free throws in the closing minutes against Loyola, and he missed a dunk on a fast break against Albany. He also didn’t start against Albany for disciplinary purposes.
In the short run, take this award with a grain of salt, while his numbers looked good this week, I’m not sure he really deserves an award. As for the long haul, I’m still not convinced that he’s an automatic draft pick, but he’s Siena’s best shot (probably ever).
