My phone blew up on Friday night when it was announced that former Texas A&M Coach Billie Gillespie was relieved of his coaching duties at Kentucky. Most recently, Fran has been heard across the nation, on ESPN Radio, on WFAN in New York, and on his regularly scheduled local programs in the Albany area.

Right off the bat– I’ll tell you that I think (and hope) Fran will stay. He continually praises D’Arg (Siena AD) and the fans for their unbelievable support, and most notably, the fact that his family fits well in the community. From what I have heard, Fran is really more concerned with his family’s future than he is with his coaching career, and when your kids love their schools, it’s a good thing all around.

It’s going to take more than money to get Fran away– it’s going to take an absolute perfect situation. Even though Kentucky is one of the most prestigious programs in the country, I don’t think he’s ready to leave. I always think, how could he leave the senior class of Ronald Moore, Edwin Ubiles and Alex Franklin? Plus, he has arguably the best Siena recruiting class coming in next season.

Fran was (laughably) contacted by BU via e-mail, but it really didn’t seem serious according to Mark Singelais at the Times Union.
