The Siena Saints (3-1) will face off against the St. John’s Red Storm (3-0) today at the Cathedral of College Basketball in Philadelphia. Starting a complete Junior class, head coach Norm Roberts finally feels his team is ready for the next step. It’ll be somewhat of a hometown crowd for the Saints, being that a bunch of the players hail from Pennsylvania, as well as coach McCaffery.
Junior swingman D.J. Kennedy is leading the scoring this year for the Red Storm, averaging about 16 points per game– Edwin Ubiles will be tasked with defending him. Sean Evans and Justin Burrell also bring a bunch of experience to the team, as they both ate up the majority of the minutes at the 1 and 2 last season.
St. John’s has yet to see a defense like Siena this season. If Siena can do what they do best and control the tempo, there’s no doubt the game is in Siena’s hands. St. John’s is averaging just 31 rebounds per contest– crashing the glass can also help the Saints snag a victory in Philly.
