The Saints had multiple chances to tie or take the lead against St. Bonaventure and failed to capitalize as the Siena shooters cooled off late in a 64-58 defeat in front of 6,067 at the Times Union Center Monday night.

Siena, trailing 54-52, missed on three straight possessions to tie or take the lead. Misses by junior O.D. Anosike and freshman Evan Hymes on consecutive possessions were exacerbated the third possession – a Hymes charge with 3:14 remaining.

Hymes attacked the shot clock winding down but was called for a charge. That charge wiped out a basket that would have tied the game at 54.  The freshman Hymes proceeded to pick up his fourth foul as a technical foul as part of a double-technical along with St. Bonaventure’s Matthew Wright during the dead ball after the charge. Hymes fouled out with 1:10 remaining on a reach in. Hymes, who scored 30 points on Saturday night at Mt. St. Mary’s, scored a team-high 18 points on 5 of 15 shooting.

The Saints attempted a comeback through fouling but could not get the ball out of Eric Mosley’s hands. Mosley scored a team-high 17 points, making six free throws down the stretch to seal the win and the Franciscan Cup for the Bonnies. Senior Andrew Nicholson, being scouted by multiple NBA teams, scored 14 points and had a team-high 12 rebounds.

Siena’s Brandon Walters scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Kyle Downey played all 40 minutes, scoring 10 poins on 4 of 9 shooting. Anosike collected a team-high 10 rebounds.

Siena got up by as many as eight in the first half before allowing an 8-0 Bonnies run to close the half trailing 29-26. St. Bonaventure got up as many as seven to start the second half but the Saints closed the lead to under a possession multiple times late in the second half.

The Saints shot just 16 for 40 (40%) from inside the arc, making just 5 of 16 (31.3%) from three point range.

St. Bonaventure leads the all time series now 26-6 over Siena.
