The Iona Gaels showed off why they are the favorite in the MAAC on Tuesday night, beating up the Siena Saints at Madison Square Garden 95-59.

The Saints last lead of the game was 19-17, from there the Gaels exploded on a 40-11 run to take a 57-31 lead into halftime.

Siena struggled to defend the Gaels from the three point line all night, allowing 17 of 39 threes. Iona’s Sean Armand scored a career-high 32 points. Armand, who shot 13 for 22 from three in his last four games, went 10 for 19 against the Saints. Siena only made 4 of their 19 three point attempts in the game.

Junior O.D. Anosike registered his ninth straight double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing a team-high 13 rebounds. Freshman Evan Hymes scored a team-high 22 points and made three three-pointers. Anosike and Hymes were the Saints only double-digit scorers.

Preseason MAAC Player of the Year Michael Glover was held to just 10 points but Jermel Jenkins’ 16 points and Arizona transfer Lamont Jones’ 14 points helped carry the Gaels without Glover’s interior presence.

Siena allowed 95 points, the most since Iona knocked the Saints out of the MAAC Quarterfinals last season in a 94-64 defeat.

The Saints drop to 0-3 in MAAC play for the first time since the 2003-04 season. Siena returns home to play Fairfield on Friday night at the Times Union Center.
