The 2008 Highlights

As we wait to find out who the Saints will take on in this year’s NCAA Tournament, let’s take a moment to reflect on last year’s First Round upset of Vanderbilt. Check it out: Whoever the Saints are matched up with, they will be looking to match (or improve upon?) last year’s success.

Bracket Breakfast

Are you looking for a great place to discuss Siena’s seed in the NCAA Tournament on Monday morning? The Sports Foundation, a 501c(3) corporation that sponsors the annual Scholar Athlete Dinner to recognize Section II’s (NY) top male and female high school scholar athletes (among other events), is the beneficiary of the Bracket Breakfast to [...]

Gold Rush for Bracketbuster

I recently received a message from the Facebook Group called Siena Saints Fans. They are attempting to create a “Gold Rush” for the Bracketbuster game vs. Northern Iowa on February 21 at 3 PM. The goal is for all Siena fans to wear gold to the game, which will be televised on ESPN2. Spread the Word!

Keeping Up Away From Albany

As one of many far-flung Siena fans, I am constantly looking for ways to keep up with everything Saints basketball. this blog helps, as does the highly trafficked Siena Message Board. There are the various Capital District newspapers with decent coverage of the Siena basketball team– (all of us here at SSB enjoy Pete Iorizzo’s [...]

Midseason Status Report

The Saints are now halfway through their highly anticipated regular season. This is the time when fans begin to consider how successful (or unsuccessful) the team has been so far. On the Siena Messageboard, SaintsFan started off the discussion, asking others how they’d grade the season so far. As usual, the opinions varied: B’s in everything [...]

Expectations?

What should be expected of this year’s version of the Siena College Saints? Preseason hype placed the Saints in the same stratosphere as many upper echelon teams. Their 0-3 record in the Old Spice Classic and struggles from the FT line (and from Senior Kenny Hasbrouck) have caused some Siena fans to lower their expectations drastically. [...]

Siena’s Greatest 3pt Shooter

Posters on the Siena Message Board have been discussing Siena’s all-time greatest 3-point shooter. …from a percentage standpoint, I would say (Jim) Cantamessa………..however, from a game changing, money ball, reel off a bunch in a row, with unlimited range ability………..that honor goes to Scott Knapp who could download a 3 at any time with ease [...]

Hasbrouck’s All-time Ranking

An interesting discussion is brewing on the Siena Message Board about Senior Kenny Hasbrouck’s ranking among the all-time Saints. …where does Kenny rank amongst the best Siena players from the last twenty years. Everyone can agree on Brown and Bennerman filling the top two spots. But where would you put Kenny? If Siena makes the [...]

Ronald Moore – Siena’s MIP?

A recent column by Mark McGuire in the Times Union discussed the importance of Ronald Moore to this Siena Saints team. Although Kenny Hasbrouck, Alex Franklin, and Edwin Ubiles have received more attention and All-MAAC honors, you can make the case that Moore is the most important player (MIP) on the team. His coach and teammates [...]

Vote for the Saints!

Siena was included in a list of 37 teams to be ranked by the general public on ESPN.com. As the page states: With the college basketball season set to begin, Andy Katz has come up with his final preseason Top 25, and the North Carolina Tar Heels sit atop his rankings. In addition to the [...]
