Running for Autism Speaks

Friends,

This fall, I will be taking part in the 2009 New York City Marathon. But more importantly than that, I am looking to raise both awareness for Autism and raise money for the charity Autism Speaks. Nearly 1 in 150 children each year are born with some form of Autism– a developmental disorder that impairs communication and social interaction.

Who could forget the incredible story of Jason McElwain, who scored 20 points in his first and last varsity basketball game. Children like Jason need our help.

I know these are tough economic times, but if you could find it in your heart to support both myself and Autism Speaks, I and millions of others would greatly appreciate your sincerity and generosity. If yourself and 100 other readers could make a contribution of just $26.2 dollars (a dollar per mile), I will have reached my fundraising goal of $2620 for 2009. I just wanted to take a second to thank all those who listened / emailed / commented on my interview with The General on Saturday. As always, I really appreciate your support. (If anyone has a copy of the interview, let me know!)

Also, thanks to the people who stopped me in Bridgeport to say hello. It’s always great meeting readers. A couple of people commented that they would have no idea who I was if I didn’t change my mugshot on my posts. Pretty funny.

I’m enjoying Turkey Day with the family so I don’t have time to do a full preview. Wichita State has some quick guards so it should be an interesting game tomorrow– hopefully Alex and Ryan aren’t too fatigued.

Thoughts: Siena vs. Union

Siena and Union have not played since the Saints turned Division I. The Saints (then Indians) won the last meeting between the two schools 69-64 during the 1975-76 season and hold a 4-3 all-time series advantage.

It marks the first Siena Men’s Basketball game open to the general public at Alumni Recreation Center in over 10 years.

All tickets are general admission and can be purchased online or at the door. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for kids under 14. The game WILL NOT be broadcast on local radio (WROW).

500 Student tickets have already been distributed so you’d better get there early. The ARC is going to get loud. While it will be a good experience for the players, I also think it will make them realize how great it is to be able to shake your own arena.

The problem with the Times Union Center is it’s always half capacity. I know it’s considered the big stage of the MAAC, but that doesn’t always work in the Saints’ favor. Not that having home court for the conference championship is a bad thing, but just consider that every opponent will play that much harder when they get to downtown Albany.

Many are calling for a blowout, and yeah, I see Siena winning 87-61.

They will be giving away Tay Fisher bobble-heads for the first 500 fans, so definitely get there early.
